After hearing much about the new Nokia N8 and the new OS Symbian^3, only seen through simulations and prototypes for now, we can see both of the more clearly in a video.
The device and the OS are shown while the user manages three different desktops with a capacity of 6 widgets each. The user interface seems evolved, but always in Symbian-style, of course. The browser also seems enhanced, even though not radically.
This is the first of three videos that will be released, so we’ll stay tuned for that.

This piece of news will make owners of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic happy. A new firmware, called 50.0.005, was launched. Among the many new features on this big update, comes QuickOffice: The free software that allows the visualization of Office files. A very welcome integration, as the software seems hard to come by, and it’s a very important thing to have in most smartphones.
Other enhancements are the kinetic scrolling also on the menus, the update of the music player (now identical to the Nokia N97 one), enhancements on the photo area and OviSync pre-installed.
In order to update it, users can use the Nokia Software Updater (or the Ovi Suite), or the option within the phone. For now,t he update is only available in the APAC regions.

Then, the Nokia E5 (€180 without taxes), aimed for a more business use, and last but not least, the Nokia C6 (€220 without taxes), with a touchscreen and qwerty keyboard, also good for web browsing.

Around a month from the first Symbian^3 demo shown during the Mobile World Congress in Barcellona, there’s another video for the new OS, done during a meeting in San Francisco.
Among the enhancements seen in the video (courtesy of Phonedog), we can see the multiple homescreens, widget customization, application management and new pages. The multitouch seems to be there and working well too. Although it’s still a virtual demo, meaning it works on a laptop and not on a real phone hardware, but it’s still good to have an idea.
Enjoy the video!

We all know that Nokia is planning on launching dual SIM phones during this year. It seems, however, that some of the dual SIM devices will be based on an S40 platform, and not on Symbian.
According to the document found by Cellularmania.net, Nokia is planning on adding touchscreen to the S40 and offer a “compelling touch experience at a highly affordable price”. It seems that these devices will also feature a QWERTY keyboard.
Nokia also promises to extend the browsing capabilities of the S40, but there are no details about it. The S40 is currently one of the most used mobile platforms in the world.

The competition is one of the best things for clients. It generates more choices and it makes companies create new strategies in order to become competitive in the market. If nowadays the technology field doesn’t have too many options that companies can choose in order to be competitive, as most technologies are available to every company, the only other choice is on prices.
And in order to compete against Sony Ericsson and Samsung, Nokia has decided to lower the prices on their own phones. According to a press-release, the prices will be 10% lower soon. The company has decided to adopt this strategy in order to reach the mark of 458 million phones sold in 2010. According to experts, the cellphone market will have a 10% increase this year.

The news of the acquisition of Dopplr by Nokia is rather recent, perhaps part of strategy that has been adopted by Nokia recently, that of integrating other social network companies into their own social network project.
For those that haven’t heard of the network, Dopplr is a social network based on travelling and for those who want to share their travel destinations with friends, scheduling their trip and leaving the task of updating the routes to the service, in case of integration with Facebook, for example.
With this move, Nokia adds yet another social network company to their own project list.

Nokia wishes for people to interact with their N900 cellphone, and in order to accomplish that, has created a contest: the PUSH N900 project, that was launched in the past few days in order to allow users to get acquainted with the Maemo platform featured on the new smartphone.
Those who want to take part on the contest and create something new should send a brief to Nokia, explaining what exactly they intend to change on the N900 in order to make it closer to personal preferences. The winners will get a N900, besides technical and financial support to put their own projects to life. The winning project will also be featured on the Nokia flagship stores worldwide.
The contest will be held until October 11th and the winners will be announced on October 25th.
